Itinerary

The route from start to finish

Here's how the two days actually run, timed so you ride in daylight and reach each viewpoint when the light is best.

Weather and road conditions in the mountains change quickly, so your guide may reorder a stop or two along the way. Whatever changes, it's always to keep the ride safe and the day enjoyable

Route map, Night 1: Hanoi to Cao Bang

We pick you up from your Old Quarter hotel anytime between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM depending on that day's bus schedule. The bus takes around 6 hours. You arrive in Cao Bang late and check into a city hotel for a proper sleep before the tour begins. Note: Departures from Sapa, Ha Giang, Ninh Binh, and Cat Ba are also available on request.

Craft villages, mountain pass, panorama, and the cave.

  1. 7:30

    Breakfast and meet your team

Breakfast at the hotel. Pack light - you'll be on a motorbike for two days. Your guide and Easy Rider meet you at the agreed pickup point and brief you on the day.

  2. 8:30

    Ma Phuc Pass

Often called the most beautiful pass in Cao Bang. 3.5 km long, 700m above sea level, with seven steep hairpin bends. It's also a UNESCO-recognised geological heritage site - the dark, pillow-shaped basalt rocks here were formed 260 million years ago by underwater volcanoes. A great spot to stretch and take photos.

  3. 9:00

    Phia Thap Incense Village

A Nung An ethnic village where around 50 families have been making incense entirely by hand for generations. Everything is natural - bamboo, tree bark, sawdust, and wild bau hat leaves used as glue. The craft was recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Vietnam. When the village dries the incense in the sun, every surface is covered in red and yellow bundles - one of the most photographed scenes in Northern Vietnam.

The big-ticket day.

  1. 7:00

    Breakfast at the homestay

  2. 8:30

    Ban Gioc Waterfall

The largest waterfall in Southeast Asia and the 4th-largest cross-border waterfall in the world. 30m tall, 300m wide, sitting on the Vietnam-China border along the Quay Son River. We take a bamboo raft to the foot of the falls - the closest view you can legally get.

  3. 10:00

Truc Lam Phat Tich Ban Gioc Pagoda

Inaugurated on 15 December 2014, this is the first pagoda ever built on Vietnam's northern border - a symbolic site for the country. Built on Phia Nham Mountain, just 500m from the waterfall, it offers the best elevated panoramic view of Ban Gioc. Traditional Vietnamese architecture with ironwood pillars and terracotta tile roofs, plus a 1.5-ton bronze bell tower.

THE SERENITY DIFFERENCE

What shapes this Journey

Time to stop properly

With no more than 10 guests, the group can slow down when incense is drying in Phia Thap, stay beside the forge in Phuc Sen, or take another few minutes when the clouds lift over Ba Quang.

The road keeps changing

One morning takes you from the bends of Ma Phuc Pass to glowing village forges, open grass hills and the cool chambers of Nguom Ngao Cave. The landscape never stays the same for long.

Riders who know the right moment

Your Easy Rider knows these roads in rain and sunshine. They know where the sharp bends begin, when the forge is busiest and why Angel Eye Mountain is worth saving for late afternoon.

A night among the stone houses

When the day visitors leave Khuoi Ky, you stay. Dinner is served around the homestay table, the village grows quiet and you wake the next morning already close to Ban Gioc Waterfall.

STAYS & MEALS

A quiet stay, local flavours, and a warm welcome

Stay at Nasan, a peaceful place close to the route, surrounded by beautiful scenery and near the stream. It’s comfortable and convenient for a night in Cao Bang, without feeling crowded.

Near Ban Gioc you stay at Nasan Green Farm, a riverside farm stay of stilt houses and bungalows in Trung Khanh, with rice fields and the Quay Son River out front and mountains behind. Kayak the river, wander the flower gardens, or cycle the lanes before a dinner cooked from the farm's own vegetables.
